How does a Reward Catalog work? Well, let me show you one of our favorite things in 1st grade! The great news is, you can use a Reward Catalog with any management system that you already have in place, it’s low-maintenance, and it can be low cost and/or FREE for you.
Here’s how it works in my room…
We use daily punch cards in my classroom. Kids get a punch or two at the end of the day for class participation, appropriate behavior, etc. You can get FREE punch cards HERE!
Once students fill up their punch card with 20 punches…it’s SHOPPING DAY!! I grabbed fun star and heart shaped hole punches to make it cute and fun!
How to Set Up Your Reward Catalog
I use a view-front three ring binder to house my reward choices. The cover page slides in the front.
I usually have about 6 or 8 choices in the catalog at one time, so I can switch out and keep it fresh throughout the year.
We keep the binder up front so it’s always on display. Then, when students have full punch cards, they come choose their reward.
Once a student chooses a reward, I sign and date the back of their full punch card and write the reward they chose. Then, they put it in their mailbox.
This serves two purposes…
1. They can show their family what they chose for a reward and tell them how it went
OR 2. If they need to bring/wear something from home the next day, this lets their parent know that this is allowed and a legitimate request.

And here are a few ideas of what I put inside my simple Prize Box!
- School “money” that they turn in for prize drawings
- Free book tickets for our Friday Free Book Drawing (Read all about that HERE!)
- Leftover prizes or treats from parties or celebrations (mostly non-candy treats)
- Stickers
- Cute erasers
- Fidgets
- Plastic rings
- Sticky notes with cute designs
- Our school provides a few “incentive” prizes throughout the year for us, so I put them in, too
